Local Outreach The Great Commission is God’s awesome directive to His people. Reaching out in the name of Christ beyond our doors is what God calls us to do. To share our resources, to spread the gospel and to invest our lives are appropriate responses of gratitude to God's love for us. World mission means sustaining mission internationally, within our nation and our community. It is the policy of Centerpointe Presbyterian Church to give away 10% of our annual ministry budget to individuals and mission agencies outside of our congregation who are serving in the name of Jesus Christ around the world. Currently, we support: Young Life, a nonprofit organization founded in 1941, seeks to impact high school and middle school youth. Non-denominational, Christ-centered YL reaches all fifty states and forty-five countries touching the lives of a million teenagers annually. YL staff and volunteers go into schools, attend games and meet in homes weekly to share the message of Christ. At YL camps, teens get away from their hometowns and bond with other youth in a supervised setting. Active in the Tri-Valley area, YL ministers to hundreds of young people in most of the high schools. For more information, refer to www.younglife.org. Habitat for Humanity forms partnerships with people in need and community volunteers to build decent, affordable housing. Habitat for Humanity is committed to eliminating poverty housing throughout the world through “hands on partnerships” with the families who will own these homes. Habitat’s motto is “a helping hand, not a hand out” and each homeowner/family contributes 500 hours of sweat equity toward their or other Habitat homes. Working under the faith-based principle that no profit should be gained from assisting those in need, Habitat for Humanity charges no interest on the homes that it sells. "If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy...charge him no interest." (Exodus 22:25) For more information, refer to www.habitateb.org. Our church has supported Habitat since 1989 and during this time, well over 200 people have helped build more that 75 homes in Oakland, Crockett, Richmond and Freemont. Our scheduled work days are the 2nd Thursday of each month. Please contact Howard & Diana Mendenhall at 846-0318 to sign up as the number of volunteers from a group are limited on the jobsite. What better way to demonstrate God’s love for people and your concern for those who are less fortunate than we are by helping these families realize their dream of home ownership. One day out of your busy life means so much to the families who will be living in these homes. Find out more about what’s happening with Centerpointe & Habitat for Humanity.
