Members in Mission
Glenalyn Hunt, who grew up in the Centerpointe family, is spending 2010 on an 11-month, 11-country mission trip that will take her to four continents. She left January 3rd for New Zealand and will travel from there to Australia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Tailand, Kenya, Uganda, another African country and Ukraine, Georgia and another Eastern European country. In each country, her team of seven missionaries will work with local partners of Adventures in Missions on various projects. These can range from construction to working with orphans to helping in schools. Each person will live on about $10 per day. Glenalyn took a full backpacking outfit and was excited to be using her tent on the first night in New Zealand.

Tim Hunt serves as an officer for Heart for Africa, a Christian non-profit group that takes large groups of North Americans to Africa to serve with children’s homes on 11-day trips. Heart for Africa works with five children’s homes (orphanages in U.S. terms) in Kenya and Swaziland.
Heart for Africa partners with a home and then works with its leadership to determine its needs and then raises money to provide safe facilities where homes can grow a substantial portion of their food supply. Merciful Redeemer in Kenya and Emmanuel in Swaziland both moved to large new fenced sites in the country side this year with the help of Heart for Africa teams after the funds were raised in the United States.
Heart for Africa provides self sustainable homes for orphans and vulnerable children in Africa and Swaziland.
The longer term goal is to develop income streams in Africa operated by Africans to support the children’s homes.
There are an estimated 15 million orphans in sub-Saharan Africa, children who have lost their parents to the combined plagues of malnutrition and AIDS. About one-third of the children at Emmanuel are HIV positive and the 55 children include 10 babies and six toddlers.
Tim has traveled to Africa four times since God called him to Swaziland in 2005. Tim’s wife, Betty Gail, traveled with him in 2008.
